Year 7 Number
Fractions Unit
Ordering, operations, equivalent fractions, fraction-to-decimal place value, and division.
One question per page
Build the fraction skills in the same order students need them.
Each section starts with a short method page. In practice, a wrong answer stays on the page so students can adjust it and try again until it is correct.
Ordering
Use common denominators.
Once the denominators match, compare the numerators.
Equivalent fractions
Multiply the top and bottom by the same number.
The fraction changes its name, but keeps the same value.
Fractions to decimals
10, 100, 1000
Tenths use 1 decimal place, hundredths use 2, and thousandths use 3.
Operations
Same denominator: add or subtract tops.
Multiplication goes top x top and bottom x bottom. In division, compare the divisor with the multiplier that produces the same result.
